Our instructors are women and men working together to prevent violence and to promote peace and healthy relationships.  They teach safety concepts, awareness, boundary-setting, and full-force physical defense skills to students of all ages and have each gone through over 100 hours of training to become certified IMPACT instructors.

Instructor training involves:

  • Taking our Basics class as students to understand the student process and have firsthand knowledge of what an IMPACT class involves
  • Refining public speaking skills to speak about our programs and to respectfully give constructive feedback to all students
  • Participating in trauma training to fully support students through what is sometimes a physically and emotionally challenging curriculum
  • Mastering layered teaching and individualized instruction (for suited instructors)
  • Learning to wear the padded suit to receive full-force strikes safely and to react realistically in scenarios
  • Honing their acting skills to effectively play the part of the “assailant” in scenarios (for suited instructors) 
  • Mastering demonstration of verbal and physical skills 
  • Learning to coach students through all scenarios, keeping students and co-instructors safe
